The Wellington 500 saw  Johnson/Crichton pairing qualified fourth in their Mustang GT. Wet weather and attrition played a large part in the results. While leading late in the race, both the Volvo 240T of Francevic/Lindstrom and the BMW 635 of Longhust/Crowe retired, This allowed the VK Commodore of Brock/Moffat to take the checkered flag, with Johnson/Crichton finished 1 lap behind in second place.
